IndiePG: Penang’s Largest Indie Festival

“There is a need for all these great music to be discovered. It is indeed encouraging to be around like minded people as well as being exposed to something different.”

If you have not heard of IndiePG in Penang, where have you been hiding? For those of you who don’t know what the rave is all about, Indie PG started in 2013 – a two-day event which features workshops and concerts! The workshops are usually hosted during the day and to end each day with a bang, A CONCERT is held. The response has been great as many people who look forward to this event every year.

IndiePG provides a platform for original music in Malaysia to improve the local music scene. Not too long ago, we asked a few local musicians on their thoughts regarding the Malaysian music scene and here‘s what they said. IndiePG is certainly on the right track for great music to be discovered by encouraging musicians to keep doing what they do.

This year, they hosted their event in Penang PAC. We swear it gets  better every year! The local bands were amazing and we were told – the feedback has been super positive as the event creates the perfect opportunity for like-minded people to network and socialise! The audience was very engaging too. Some of the audience favourites were Lux Spectra, Reach for the Skies, The Mash, Armon and Four Leaf Clover. We heard the crowd went wild, especially over their original pieces which were incredible – Malaysia, we definitely have what it takes!

Let’s not forget about their workshops! The workshops have always been free, which is really great as they wish to educate the public about music and other industries through this. We think that’s great, c’mon, who doesn’t like free things right? They even got Jennifer Thompson on giving a talk on Music Business 101.

Now, how did this level of greatness came to be? It is none other than Kelvyn Yeang, who is the man behind all of this! This guy has been running Indie PG from the start! Let’s stand united and keep supporting our local acts.
