Why In-Between? Because The In-Between Arts Festival (IbAF) is resting nicely between two long-standing festivals – George Town Literary Festival and The Penang Island Jazz Festival. So Hin Bus thought what better theme to associate this festive season with, than food? We couldn’t agree more!
“What we eat tells a story not just about us as individuals but about the histories that make up our wider culture – and food is thus intimately linked to the arts. The IbAF works in partnership with other organisations in Penang to foster collaborations between artists and food professionals. By approaching food through art and by highlighting the artistry of food, the IbAF frames itself as stimulating and inspiring: a positive approach that gets people to think about the role of food in our society and leads to innovative ideas about people’s everyday lifestyle choices.“
The IbAF 2016 has an exciting list of events, like workshops, exhibitions, a book stall, food presentations, and more! This event will also allow small businesses and artists to showcase their products and talents to reach a wider audience. There’ll be a Launch Party on the 26th, so keep a look out on that! As we all know, parties at Hin Bus Depot are always a great ordeal because they NEVER disappoints.
For Vegan lovers, you will love Taste The Love workshop as there’ll be inspirational Q&As by London vegan, author and journalist, Pamela Nowicka and also local Penangites, Selvy ‘n’ Chen! As for foodie writers and bloggers, there’ll be a great interactive Food Writing workshop with award-winning chef Nurilkarim Razha!
A unique take to their normal Tuesday Screenings, ‘Food Films’, where of course they’ll be screening food related films! This is a pretty exciting collaboration between Hin Bus Depot, Bricklin Cafe and the brand new Wholly Wonder! The two films of choice will be ‘Filosofi Kopi’ and ‘The Hundred-Foot Journey’! Who likes Kombucha?! A very beneficial tea in terms of boosting the immune system and detoxing, this is your chance to learn how to make this elixir of life at their Kombucha workshop.
PS: You will be required to register for workshops and some may include an admission fee. There’ll also be more details on closing events so keep an eye on their FB Event Page here!
We’re looking forward to Food Films, Taste The Love and Food Styling and Photography Workshop! This event is going to be the highlight for November – so pack your bags and head on to Penang!
