From the 27th January 2017 to the 11th February 2017, Kek Lok Si Temple, one of the best-known temples here, will be showcasing more than 10,000 lights and lanterns during this festive season! If you missed it last year, be sure to catch it this year as it is truly breathtaking!

Festival of Cheng Chooi Chor Soo Kong Birthday

This is a celebration of the birthday of the Cheng Chooi Chor Soo Kong Deity of the Snake Temple corresponding to the 6th Day of Chinese New Year – which will be held on the eve of 1st February 2017! Have you been to the Snake Temple? It’s one of those one-of-a-kinds in the world!

This will be held on the 3rd of February 2017 at the Georgetown Heritage Area from 4 pm – 12 am. All sort of cultural performances will be lined up for that evening – workshops, performances, food presentation, skilful art performances and so much more!

This has to be one of the most significant dates for the locals. It falls on the 9th day of Chinese New Year, 4th February 2017, to celebrate the Jade Emperor God’s birthday. There’s always the magnificent parade that’ll begin at 8 pm along Chew Jetty. At the stroke of midnight, prayers are performed with offerings of food, fruits, liquor, and sugarcane. Also, fireworks!

Who doesn’t want to float above Penang during this festive season right? Well, it’s happening – catch Penang Hot Air Balloon Fiesta 2017 happening on the 8th and 9th day of Chinese New Year. Mark your calendars for the 4th and 5th of February 2017 all the way from 7.00 am to 9.30 pm.

Celebrated on the last day of Chinese New Year, 11th February 2017. It is also known as the Chinese Valentine’s Day.  Most young ladies throw an orange to into the sea and wish for a good soul mate.
