5 Things You Need to Know About Destination Weddings

It finally happened! The big question was popped – you’re engaged! It’s now time to get into details of wedding planning and one of the big questions is location, location, location. Considering a destination wedding? Here at 5 things you need to know about planning a wedding out of town.

Get those research gloves on

Whilst you may have an idea or image of what your nuptials will look like, we can’t stress how important it is that you do a thorough evaluation of possible locations. Compile a wish list of locations you want to consider and get googling! Be open to places you might not have thought of originally, after all Hawaii isn’t the only place with stunning beaches. Malaysia boasts a multitude of picturesque beaches to get married on. How about the Pangkor Laut Resort? – a private island with white sands and emerald seas.

Organisation is the New Mantra

Planning a destination wedding is no easy feat. From whether you’ll have your DJ flown in or you’ll go for a local band, there are a multitude of decisions to be made. We suggest hiring a wedding planner to help ease the burden. But even with a wedding planner, get yourself an organiser to keep tabs on all the aspects of the wedding. This will come in handy as not only are lists proven to help organise a frazzled brain, it will give you comfort during middle of the night stresses when you can’t call your wedding planner.

Using your Location as Part of Your Theme

One of the best parts of destination weddings is letting your choice of the venue set the tone for your wedding. For example, if you want an opulent wedding with regal flourishes consider a location in Rajasthan, India. Known for its numerous palaces and forts, Rajasthan is home to royalty and will give you the royal treatment you deserve. Consider the Oberoi Udaivillas in Udaipur for your own royal affair.

 Visit the Location

We can’t stress this enough. Pictures may speak a thousand words but there’s nothing like visiting the venue and getting a feel of the place yourself. Whilst this may seem like an extravagant expenditure, it will be a fraction of the investment you’re about to make in your wedding venue. Whilst this could serve as a mini vacation for you and your betrothed, ensure that you have a checklist with you to make sure you make the most of your trip. You’ll want to check the venue but also understand local laws to obtain a marriage license and understand what’s available to you in terms of vendors.

Be Prepared; Some People May Not Be Able to Attend

This is especially hard when it’s your loved ones who might not be able to attend. Depending on your locale, some people may not be able to attend a destination wedding as their funds might not permit it. If this happens, be understanding that they want to celebrate your wedding but it’s not in their ability at the moment. If possible, we would suggest planning a small local event to celebrate with those friends and family who can’t make it. After all, what’s a little more merriment in your lives?

We feel like that’s the most important things you need to iron out when planning a destination wedding. If these tips came in handy, do let us know in the comments below.
