Top Local Beauty Brands To Try Next

It’s always great to support your local beauty brands as some are able to provide similar high-quality products at a more reasonable price compared to international brands. Here are our favourite picks of homegrown beauty brands in Malaysia!

XOXO Cosmetics

This has to be MY personal favourite and my everyday shade is Dolce! What started as a Malaysian dupe of Kylie Cosmetics, Xoxo Cosmetics evolved to be one of the best local brands I have ever tried! Dupe or not, the texture, the lightness and it is long-lastingness by far tops my list. I’ve probably been using XOXO matte lipsticks since they launched a few years ago and its consistency is guaranteed. Priced at rm39 per matte liquid lipstick, it is worth it and is a MUST TRY on your list!

Nita (Vulcan Post)

NITA Cosmetics was founded by Aznita Azman in 2016. Each of her product lines incorporates local customs, traditions, and even cuisine, into the names and packaging of the products. Some of them include “Kopi Susu Matte Liquid Lipstick in Chestnut Nude” and “Cheongsam Matte Liquid Lipstick in Vibrant Orange”. This brand carries a wide range of hypoallergenic makeup products to suit all skin tones for today’s generation at an affordable price.

Fame (Carousell)

Fame Cosmetics launched in 2015 where their first products were their Matte Lip Cream collection, which till today is a local favourite among many customers and professional makeup artists. The Matte Lip Cream products now come with 15 trendy colours that can be applied easily, long lasting and doesn’t dry your lips! Their line has also increased to include BB cushion, eyeliners, mascara and even pocket mirrors.

Founded by two friends and women who run their own fashion labels, Tengku Chanela Jamidah and Didie Nasir. They believe that not only all women wear makeup, but it also made them feel better about themselves, which is why they created the notion “by women for women” and empowering women through beauty.

If you haven’t gotten the chance to swatch some of DIDA‘s lip creme range, let us tell you that this glides on your lips effortlessly! The pigmentation is so good that you would opt this rather than your next Kat Von D. We know their products will never disappoint.

Velvet Vanity has come a long way since their humble beginnings in 2016, founded by Adlina Nadirah. If you’re on Instagram, you know all about the hype on Velvet Vanity! They have an amazing range of liquid lipsticks that are perfect dupes to the Kylie’s! They are also 100% vegan and cruelty-free!  So, the next time you’re thinking of investing in a good lipstick, think Velvet Vanity!

Tinkerberry offers all natural and organic beauty products! Founder, Trushna Patel, the inspiration behind Tinkerberry was yummy desserts! We heard their products taste as good as they feel on the skin! We even managed to get in touch with Trushna to share with us what inspired her into starting up Tinkerberry.

Q: What inspired you to set up Tinkerberry and what are the challenges you faced while setting up the business?

My inspiration behind Tinkerberry was yummy Desserts! Ingredients like Cacao has antioxidant properties which works wonders for the skin, and we feature it prominently in our Chocolát range. We add decadence and luxurious indulgence to our products, all the while maximising its healing properties.

The biggest hurdle we faced was sourcing ingredients. This process took a few trials and errors. We now source pure, organic ingredients from trusted suppliers worldwide.

So.lek was founded in 2016 by siblings, Dahlia Nadirah and Luqman Hakim. It was inspired when they discovered a wide range of cosmetic brands and how it was very well received when they went to America. So.lek was inspired by the idea of instilling confidence and enhancing beauty among its users. The name So.lek was not only a mere translation of “makeup” in Malay but also inspired by their favourite slogan “So? Relax”. The idea for the company’s logo was taken from the siblings’ grandmother’s traditional eyeliner called “celak“. So.lek products are made from high-quality ingredients yet affordably priced!
